Persistent symptoms after infection

A thoughtful evaluation when recovery has not followed the course you expected. Care for adults with post-infectious concerns at Regenera Medical in Los Angeles.

Understanding a changed baseline

After an infection, some people continue to experience fatigue, difficulty concentrating, disrupted sleep, or reduced tolerance for everyday activities. These symptoms deserve a careful history and appropriate medical evaluation.

Dr. Vojdani sees adults with persistent post-infectious concerns, including symptoms following COVID-19. The evaluation considers the timing of symptoms, your prior level of function, existing medical conditions, and what has already been investigated.

Who this evaluation may suit

  • Adults whose symptoms have persisted after the acute phase of an infection.
  • People who have undergone an initial evaluation and want a more detailed review of ongoing concerns.
  • Patients seeking an individualized plan that accounts for activity tolerance and the effect of symptoms on daily life.

New or rapidly worsening symptoms may require prompt assessment rather than waiting for a comprehensive consultation.

What we explore together

A detailed symptom timeline helps establish what changed and when. The review includes medications and supplements, sleep, nutrition, activity tolerance, and previous laboratory or specialist findings.

If physical or mental effort leads to a delayed worsening of symptoms, describe that pattern during the evaluation. Care planning should account for your limits. Dr. Vojdani discusses which further investigations may be useful and when evaluation by cardiology, neurology, pulmonology, or another specialty is appropriate.

Immune research, interpreted carefully

Dr. Vojdani co-authored a review of proposed contributors to long COVID, including immune dysregulation, viral persistence, and reactivation of latent viruses. He has also participated in research examining autoantibodies in COVID-19.

These lines of research help frame clinical questions. They do not mean that every person with persistent symptoms has an active infection, or that an antibody result by itself identifies the cause. Research into mechanisms must be distinguished from evidence that a treatment improves outcomes.

Questions before you begin

Do I need a confirmed long COVID diagnosis to inquire?

You can contact the team about persistent symptoms following an infection. The clinical evaluation determines what diagnoses and next steps are appropriate.

Does a positive viral antibody test mean the virus is active?

Not necessarily. Many antibodies reflect a past exposure. Interpretation depends on the particular test, the clinical history, and other findings.

What does progress look like?

Goals are individualized and may focus on symptoms, daily function, or tolerating routine activities. The plan is reviewed as your condition and the evidence evolve.
